Our Misson

For the industry, by the industry. Music Media Collective was established to fill the growing void left by the decline of independent and community-driven publications and broadcasting by providing funding, resources, and platforms that support storytelling, artist discovery, and cultural preservation.  By working alongside media professionals, outlets, artists, and venues, we’re strengthening the ecosystem to ensure music communities flourish.

The Music Media Collective was created in response to the rapid disappearance of community-based music media. Artists, venues, and fans are losing vital pieces of the ecosystem for discovery, connection, and promotion as more independent outlets vanish and radio becomes less local and more syndicated. This decline doesn’t just impact music culture. It directly affects the livelihoods of professionals working across the music industry.

We’re building a collective community made up of those already doing the work: journalists, radio hosts, podcasters, photographers, videographers, publicists, and creators across traditional and emerging platforms. By sharing resources and support, we’re working to restore access, visibility, and opportunity across the music media landscape.

Music media professionals can’t rebuild this alone. That’s why we’re also working with artists, venues, and industry allies to create something stronger—because this impacts all of us. Built by and for the industry, MMC offers opportunities for collaboration through town halls, think tanks, and live programming. Our flagship projects include Asses in Seats (a live music talk podcast), Legacy and Legends (a live educational interview series), and Cratedigr (a forthcoming fan-powered platform for live music reviews and artist discovery).

Take Action!

Public media is a lifeline for both rural and urban communities, with over 70% of federal funding allocated directly to local stations, particularly those serving underserved areas. Yet, this vital resource represents less than 0.01% of the federal budget.

Now more than ever, it’s time to take action and protect what so many rely on for trusted, non-commercial, and independent storytelling.

Support

The Music Media Collective is actively working to secure funding, recruit volunteers, and build partnerships to ensure the sustainability and growth of music media, supporting all aspects of the independent music community.

Industry voices

What they're saying

From journalists and broadcasters to professional photographers and industry analysts, all voices echo the same truth.

"I don’t know what the future holds for the music journalism industry, but they’re scrambling to adapt for survival."
"When arts and culture is treated as a ‘nice to have’ it gets deprioritised, and this is what we’ve seen play out in the media industry.”
"The importance of quality music journalism is still crucial for artists at all stages of their careers."
"Although places like YouTube and TikTok are more mainstream sources... those who discover music via blogs and websites spend the most money on music."
